Hair & Beauty Services
Getting your hair done can be a delightful experience at any age, but there’s something particularly special about the feeling an older adult gets when they have their hair styled and taken care of.
It’s a rejuvenating and uplifting experience that can bring a renewed sense of confidence and joy. Pair this experience with a skilled hairdresser and bring on the physical sensation and emotional benefits of a trip to the salon.
Brenda provides a holistic experience that encompasses both physical and emotional well-being. From the relaxation and rejuvenation during the appointment to the enhanced self-image and social connection she forms with patients and residents, the positive effects of getting their hair styled can truly make our patients and residents feel good, inside, and out.
At Andrus on Hudson, we provide most hair and beauty services free of charge to our patients and residents thanks to the support of the Queen of Hearts (QOH) game fundraiser.
A.rtistic I.nspirations
Andrus on Hudson recognizes the importance of self-expression through art for individuals with medical needs and cognitive impairments. Art provides a unique and powerful avenue for communication, creativity, and emotional well-being.
Recently AOH launched A.rtistic I.nspirations a new program that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to create drawings. Residents describe an image in their mind’s eye to a staff member who transcribes the residents’ descriptions into the DALL-E app and the computer does a rendering that can be adjusted with commands. Residents are enjoying this program and we have seen firsthand the positive impact on residents’ self-esteem with many detailed conversations about memories and experiences.
A.rtistic I.nspirations is made possible with the help of proceeds from the Queen of Hearts game fundraiser. While you have fun playing QOH, you are giving the gift of creativity and helping our residents cultivate their unique voices.
Intergenerational
Andrus on Hudson offers a unique opportunity for our residents to connect with students. Having two schools on our campus that provide intergenerational programs enriches the lives of participants and highly promotes understanding and empathy.
Every week our residents look forward to collaborating with the students on different projects and getting to make connections with their little buddies.
Our programming is able to forge impactful, meaningful relationships. The benefits to our residents include improved health, increased connectedness and less isolation. Younger generations learn from the resident’s wisdom and life lessons, while residents gain insights from younger generations. It is a win-win for all involved.
Participation in the QOH fundraiser helps us to continue to nurture these lasting connections and increases everyone’s sense of belonging.
